FlowMag Magnetic Scale Control for Cooling Towers and HVAC Systems
Scale buildup in cooling tower systems is one of the most persistent and expensive maintenance problems in industrial and commercial facilities. A 1 mm calcium carbonate scale layer on a heat exchanger surface reduces heat transfer efficiency by 7–10%. A 3 mm layer — common in systems with poor scale control — reduces it by 20–30%. The US Department of Energy estimates that scale and fouling in cooling water systems increases energy consumption by up to 15% annually.
FlowMag eliminates scale formation in cooling tower circuits without antiscalant chemicals, dosing equipment, or chemical management overhead. Installed inline on the makeup line, recirculating line, or both — it operates indefinitely without any intervention or consumables once commissioned.
How FlowMag protects cooling tower systems
Makeup water treatment. FlowMag installed on the cooling tower makeup line treats incoming fresh water before it enters the recirculating circuit. Scale-forming ions are conditioned to precipitate as larger, less-adhesive suspended crystals — reducing the contribution of incoming water to scale formation on tower fill, heat exchanger surfaces, and spray distribution nozzles.
Side-stream recirculating water treatment. Continuous treatment of a portion of the recirculating volume — typically 10–25% — keeps scale-forming ions in suspended crystalline form throughout the circuit, preventing deposition on critical heat transfer surfaces.
- —Recommended flow: 10–25% of total recirculating volume through FlowMag as minimum; full-flow with appropriately sized model for maximum effect
- —Model selection: SST-5 through SST-12 depending on recirculating flow rate — K Factor engineers confirm the correct model for each installation
- —Installation: EN 1092-1 Type 01 flanged inline mount; pressure drop below 0.1 bar; no power required

Still running media filters that consume rolls every few hours in grinding?
K Factor's 30-day free trial is available for magnetic separation systems. We assess your ferrous particle loading, fluid type, flow rate, and downstream filtration system. We commission the appropriate GT-MAG, PAC-MAG, or K-MAG inline in your circuit. You run it for 30 days and measure the reduction in media consumption, coolant clarity, and tool life. If the results don't justify the investment, return the system. No invoice. No commitment.
Available to qualifying facilities in the United States, Canada, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other markets.
